Job Description:
Emerald Mold and Tool is seeking an experienced Surface Grinder to join our precision machining team in Kernersville, NC. The ideal candidate will have at least 3+ years of experience operating surface grinding machines, with the ability to hold tolerances of ±.0002 inches. This position requires strong attention to detail, a deep understanding of grinding techniques, and the ability to work independently to achieve high-quality results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate surface grinding machines to produce precision parts and tooling.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate part production.
- Maintain tight tolerances of ±.0002 inches on all ground components.
- Inspect finished parts using micrometers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring tools.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and ensure proper grinding wheel selection and dressing.
- Work with steel, carbide, and other materials commonly used in mold and tool applications.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety and quality standards.
- Collaborate with engineers, machinists, and other team members to troubleshoot and improve processes.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience operating surface grinders in a precision machining or tool and die environment.
- Proven ability to hold tolerances of ±.0002 inches consistently.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, and height gauges.
- Strong understanding of grinding wheel types, speeds, feeds, and coolant application.
- Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and drawings.
- Experience working with hardened steels, carbide, and other tool-making materials.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the mold and tool industry.
- Familiarity with CNC surface grinding.
- Knowledge of GDT (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles.
